Welcome to senior year! I hope that you are all healthy and doing well. On Tuesday September 22nd at 8am, the Guidance Department will host a College Information presentation for the parents of seniors via zoom, the link will be emailed closer to the 22nd. The presentation will also be recorded for access at any time.
This presentation will focus on the nuts and bolts of the college application and admissions process. Each stage of the process will be carefully reviewed including important dates, timelines, and application procedures. Additional discussion will focus on admissions policies, teacher recommendations, the college essay, admissions guidelines, transcript procedures, and the common application.
During the weeks of September 1st and September 9th Mrs. Colten and I are holding seminars and workshops to present similar information to the students. After the presentations we will be meeting with each student to discuss his or her individual plans and will continue to do this throughout the application process.
Please contact me if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing you on the 22nd.
Welcome back Royals! The opening of school is only a couple weeks away and this year will look different from previous but will still be outstanding. Everyone at GMHS has been attending professional development, preparing the building to be a safe place for teaching and learning, upgrading our internet connections, and committed to doing whatever is necessary to make it great.
We will start the first day of school on Wednesday, 9/16 with Remote Learning. At this point, most people are familiar with Remote Learning but just in case, students will be learning from home and will not be arriving at school in the traditional way. This will be very different for everyone. I have always looked forward to the first day of school with the excitement of having students back in the building. This year is still very exciting but I will have to wait a little longer until we are able to fill the classrooms.
Teachers will be reaching out to you to inform you of the links to log into their classes. The links they will be sending are for the year. You will not be receiving weekly Zoom addresses to keep track of. Our goal is to keep students as organized as much as possible and to streamline Remote Learning. If in any way you are struggling socially, emotionally, and/or academically, please reach out to your teachers or guidance counselor immediately. We all want you to succeed in every possible way.
Keeping track of assignments will be done is Schoology. Teachers will post their assignments, schedules, and feedback on the same platform. When it comes time to post grades for the quarter, this will be done in the traditional way through the Student/Parent Portal.
During Remote Learning, grades and attendance count. It is important that you maintain your grades and attendance as best as you can in order to succeed. Please click on the Royal Reopening Plan or go to the GMHS Principal’s Blog for details on grading and the attendance protocol. In addition, the GHS and the GMS handbooks are online. Please make sure you review to ensure clear expectations for learning in a Remote and Hybrid Learning environment.
You will be happy to hear that I have an optional homework assignment for your parents and caregivers called “In a Million Words or Less…” Over the course of the upcoming year, teachers will get to know you very well, whether we are in person or remote. In the meantime, I am asking your parents and guardians to please help teachers get a head start by describing you. Each one of you is special and unique in your own way. No one knows this better than your parents and caregivers! Please have them share your likes/dislikes/fears/hopes/dreams/past success/ past struggles/learning styles…
This optional assignment is not graded in any way or will you be penalized. I hope parents and caregivers are able to participate in the “In a Million Words or Less…” assignment and assist teachers in getting to know and support you from the first day of school.
I hope everyone enjoys the remaining days of summer. I look forward to a year filled with stories of great success and excitement.
